Photography
Minutiae - This is when you focus on just on part of an object so that the image you have taken doesn't look like what it really is. for example If there in a pierce of wood you would focus on the pattern within the wood.
Focus point - When you focus on an object you can then move your camera to the side but to the side only; this is because the camera only measure the focus point from the distance of the object, if you move it closer it will not focus.
What have I learnt?
I have also learnt that when you focus on an object, you can then move the camera to the side so that there is nothing in the middle of the photo. This attracts the viewer to the photo and allows me to create a background in the photo that is not in focus making the photograph more mysterious.
I went to People Park to take pictures of the environment and my surroundings. I focused on the minutiae of natural objects. When taking photographs of textured objects, I focused on the texture of bark really close so that it did not look like bark; I also did this with the texture of a wall. By doing this the viewer is unable to determine what the object is.
I created contacts sheets on Adobe Bridge to publish on my blog. I have never used Bridge before but found it simple and easy to use. By creating contact sheets it allows the viewer to see multiple pictures at one time.
Depth of field - Depth of field is the amount of distance between the nearest and farthest objects that appear in acceptably sharp focus in a photograph. A preferred selection Depth of field ("DOF") in a focused subject in an image can be quite subjective. Remember this, adequate selection of DOF for one situation; application may be unacceptable for another photographer. It is all a matter of personal preference when trying to determine the appropriate use of DOF to enhance an effect in a photograph.
John Blakemore
When taking my images I photographed from different angles to create different shapes and forms, a good example of this was using a coke bottle because you can create many shapes from the side and the top of the bottle. I liked the photo from the top of the bottle because the rim of the bottle creates a circle shape and the diameter of the bottle gives the rim a background. I tried many other angles such as a side view; this did not create a good image because the background of the bottle was blurry.
I have learnt that the layout of a still life can be changed in order to change the whole image. Doing this allows you to create a different picture for the viewer by using the same objects.
I researched John Blakemore and found that his work is very interesting, this is because he creates an image with objects that do not relate to one another to tell a story. He chooses the layout of his objects very carefully; when I was trying to recreate his work I found it very difficult because I had limited resources.

Painting with light
When painting with light we set the camera to bulb mode which leaves the shutter open until you release the button then it captures the light that goes in. The longer the shutter is open the more light you will be able to get in, you can cover the lens with your hand or a book, this allows you move the light source without the camera picking it up. The lower the ISO is the better this works, You can leave the shutter open as long as you like in bulb mode but you can also have a set time if you are working alone. you can use objects and people whilst painting with light but this can take much more effort than just moving a light around in darkness, although it takes more effort the final outcome may be better.
